Not a problem, OO saves in Word format. I generally send my resumes in PDF exported from OO. That way I know it gets formatted the way I intended and not the way some user has configured his/her office suite.
Isn't that precisely the issue? If I get one page to tell someone about my entire professional career, it better look exactly as I intended it... PDF wasn't in the list.
Details, details. Don't bother me with details. The Devil is in the details and my church always told me to stay away from the Devil. ;')
But he did say text, and well what is PDF if not formatted text. ;'))
But, I agree with you. Mandating a format that applicants aren't likely to actually use is bad manners. I was just being a smart-alec.
I don't get it. All the snide remarks. It's a job offer. If you don't like it or smell a rat, walk on by. I for one appreciate seeing Linux job postings, even though I'm not in the market for a job. It gives me a means by which to gauge how people are actually using Linux.
But hell, even an entry level position is a foot in the door. And whether it is 3 months, 6 months or 10 years is more likely to be determined by whether or not you're a pleasant person to work with, whether you're any good at the primary job role, and whether you're hopelessly over- or under- qualified. And probably in that order.
Though I suppose it is much easier to sit back and assume conspiracy theories and plots against yourself. Much easier to sit on the sidelines and carp. It's like you're sitting out here waiting for the perfect job to come served up on a silver platter.
Open positions are about the employer's needs. If you want a job and they ask for you're resume in cuniform, you ought to deliver it. Hell, I'd consider posting a Linux position and asking for the resume in word format just to go ahead and filter out all the religious fanatics and ax grinders ;-)

Yes, true, and at least there's enough of a clue in the place that they're runnng Linux somewhere.
It's just that so many of us have been exposed to the Utterly Clueless Supervisor. We've been the victim of job requirements for three years of experience on a system that's only been out for two. We've watched the clueless be promoted above us because we were able to point out problems they glibly ignored. We like to vent occasionally (news://alt.sysadmin.recovery) and we don't really want to put ourselves in that position agian.
Open positions are about the employer's needs.
Well, sometimes. Sometimes they're also about the employer's ignorance and prejudice.

Now there you have an excellent point, and a good idea.
