What's the quickest trick to get a proxim wifi usb adaptor to work with ubuntu?
Craig at my campground has tried everything for hours with no luck. Any suggestions are appreciated. Google etc has been a flat bust.
TIA

Here's what I have found about USB wireless adapters (and non-USB, too):
You need to first specify the environment, then find a list of adapters that support that environment. Most WiFi adapters, whatever the type, use proprietary drivers. A limited list of adapters share common interfaces and can use the same drivers; others have unique needs. Some require minor adjustments to config files, so they may appear incompatible at first.
There is a list of adapter brands and the chips they use; there is a very small number of chips that are openly supported.
One particular model of D-Link adapters is supported on MacOSX, with special (free) drivers.
Conclusion:
You may need to trade the Proxim for a different brand, unless the chip in it is in the family.
I don't have the specifics memorized, but I'll try to get them together and pass them to you. I found them with a Google for "usb wireless" or some such.

I've been able to get an old 2wire G USB adater working with NDISwrapper. It wasn't stable for large downloads, but it worked for basic browsing.
