Dirvish backup system- Is it a viable tool?

I was asked to check Dirvish out by one of my campers today. He said it replaced Retrospect for his company. The initial searches and review I have made seem good- unless something else has replaced it. Anyone here have any "hands-on" with Dirvish? http://www.dirvish.org/ -- Oren Beck 816.729.3645

printing an image on multiple pages

so I've got this image, it's graphviz output, and it's long and skinny, and I want to print it on a series of pages. The KDE print system "poster" utility looks llike the right tool for the job but ghostscript 8.62 chokes on poster's output, even after the input has been massaged by running it through ps2epsi. I had thought firefox would print a large image to multiple pages but I appear to be have been mistaken about that. Anyone have any ideas? -- bringing useful insights from Computer Science to the larger world

Need some help on AV, specifically, using my monitor as a TV

This is kinda hard to sum up neatly, so I'm sorry the title is somewhat confusing. Basically, I'm wondering if it would be possible to hook up devices that would normally go to a TV to my computer and then watch them on that. For example, hook up my Wii, and then have the video from that show up in a window (or fullscreen), so that I can use my monitor instead of my TV, and I can take screenshots of it. If this is possible, what kind of hardware would I need to take a video-in signal, and what programs would be able to have it stay in a window and/or run it in fullscreen? Also, potentially, record video. I've seen some distros that are made to function as DVRs/media devices, but I'd prefer to keep my Ubuntu install that I have now. I've seen some talk of setting up TV tuners, but those seem to just receive broadcast signals, which isn't really what I'm looking for.

Is anyone using newer (~ 1 year or newer) video cards that are supported by some flavor of linux? If so, do you have any comments? I'm researching for a new box, so any info is appreciated. TIA Tim Reid

Ok- this one is a real brick wall so far. Every lead seems to be a not quite ready. What does anyone on the list know about a Linux based tool to at minimum print from MS Publisher 2002 or so? -- Oren Beck 816.729.3645
