X Windows Question

Hello all, I am posting here because I am looking for a local (KC area) X resource. I am currently in the final stages of building a MythTV HDTV PVR. This is the first Linux box that I have built that is not headless. (read: usually I do not work with X.) Long story short, I can get the system to output to a standard monitor without issue (X does a fine job of determining the proper resolution) However, when I attach the system to my Toshiba HDTV (via DVI) I can only get it to output 800x600 (Image falls off the screen) or 640x480 (image does not fill the screen). At this point it is my understanding that I need to build a custom modeline but for the life of me with all the reading that I have done I cannot grasp the concept. If you think that you are up the the task and interested, please let me know. On another note, I would be interested in attending a meeting, but chances are I will be out of town mid week as I travel for a living. But if I happen to be in town I look forward to attending. Web Design Needed

Rolling Hills Consolidated Library is looking for a professional web designer to redo our website. The site is currently written in simple HTML, and is a collection of hand coding and NVU/Mozilla composer created pages. We want to have the coding updated to reflect current best practices, including CSS, and have some code cleaning done. We will also be adding a few pages and looking for creative redesign of some pages, including our "teen" and "children's" pages. We might have some simple java/javascript or flash done, but nothing extensive. An absolute requirement will be that the site is OS and browser agnostic, ie, Linux/Unix/Apple (and all the others) friendly. We expect frequent communication and perhaps even an occasional in-person meeting, so our preference would be a company in the KC/St. Joseph area. I saw a TV card in CompUSA last night that output 1080i, but it was a cheapy card. Non Hauppage. You MAY need something like this to fully utilize your HDTV. The problem is not making it work with the X drivers on the system, it's making it into a product that you can deploy to an end user. This means a friendly calibration utility and configuration options tools. The free stuff from elotouch.com, the linux_public.zip file is woefully incomplete. I see you don't like 3M. These days (considering you have a newer Elo touch) you use the drivers in X. You can find how to setup the drivers at: http://www.elotouch.com/support/linux.asp The newer versions of X (4.x.x) include some Elo drivers that should work. That is what Elo suggests using. Just look for the input driver as instructed and see if it works. Otherwise, I would look up the particular model of Elo and try googling for it from there. Does anyone have elo graphics touch screens drivers and touch screen calibration utility for 2.6 kernels. In particular CentOS 4.3, the comparable to RHEL 4, updates 3. I can make the touch screen work with the elographics X drivers but the right way is to use the package from elo which I have been unable to get from them. It's a kernel level driver and calibration tool. The package would likely be called elotouch-1.1somthiing.rpm based on the little that I know.

Well, have you tried (while connected to your HDTV: ~ # Xorg -configure ~ # X -config /root/xorg.conf.new If it works, copy the settings from the new xorg.conf to your current one. If your running Knoppix or Gentoo, you can always install ddcxinfo-knoppix to find out the HorizSync and VertRefresh. The sources may be available on the Knoppix site, but I run Gentoo so I can just: # emerge ddcxinfo-knoppix

7z compression

Just downloaded a Gentoo based livecd that has XGL running on both gnome and kde.... Unfortunately, I can't seem to extract the iso image with either Ark, File Roller or Karchiver. I installed p7zip and using command line 7za I keep getting unsupported file type errors. I am unfamiliar with 7za and p7zip... Can someone offer info on how to extract this file? file name=RR64-Linux-3.0b1.iso.7z Thanks
