Bill, can you accept mailed checks for this at your Lumen Software address? Maybe have them make check out to you with a memo of Server Fundraiser and a notation on the outer envelope. This isn't set in stone yet guys, let Bill answer yay or nay first. If not Bill's address then I recommend Chris Bier. Those two are more hands on with the server than most others and I trust them. And no vi in any of it's incantations doesn't qualify as a RAD tool. Creating web pages is inherently about creating large amounts of text. I'm looking for ways to cut down on the required amount of text (Think Visual Studio.Net, only better). Not all of us can type 5000 words a minute. I've used Bluefish and Quanta and I like them both. The Zend-Studio looks very much like the direction I want to go. I don't really need .Net drag-n-drop, but if I'm doing something like creating several pages accessing different portions of a database, then having code-snippets that I can select and drop in and customize makes life a lot easier and coding faster. Not to mention reducing the risk of typos. So I guess to expand on my question does Blue-fish or Quanta allow you to add items that would insert code-snippets and where do you like to go to get already been written code snippets? Brian D

I was complaining about the selection of resolutions defaulting to 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. I'd like to tell the install program to drop the first two. And stop raining on my parade by showing solutions. It's hard enough to find anything to rant about on Linux today, as it is, without educated users pointing out solutions. ;') I'll have to look for the button you're talking about. What would be really nice to go along with the screen resize is to change the virtual desktop at the same time, so that you don't have to scroll to find menus and apps, and etc. I'm not sure who ever thought it would be neat to have a virtual desktop that is bigger than your screen... oh ... wait ... that's what the original post was about. ;') But then, at Least with Xinerama you don't need to scroll to see the whole desktop. I find scrolling the desktop to see my apps, well, bothersome. Brian

But wouldn't it be nice to be able to tell the installation program to remove those offending lines, or replace them with lines of resolution you want? I know how to do it by editing the X files, and my system already boots that way. However my semi-literate wife would totally lose it if she were to accidentally hit <ctrl><alt><+> and all of a sudden her entire desktop vanishes and is replaced with this new jigsaw puzzle piece of her old screen. This is the way she would see it. She wouldn't recognize the her screen resolution just changed. She would simply reply that that was a stupid thing to do and it just confuses her, couldn't I just get rid of that? As it is she gets frustrated enough, because I have been a lousy system administrator and haven't set up her account by activating all those things she might someday want to use. Help re-installing/restarting Xinerama

I have a Matrox G450 Dual-Head card with two monitors hooked up to it. When I first installed Mandrake Linux 10.0, it gave me the option of stretching the desktop across to the second monitor, using Xinerama, which I chose to do. After a power failure at the house, the display no longer does this, and instead shows the same thing on both monitors. I can't find any configuration option in the GUI configuration system to reinstall/restart Xinerama. Don't you hate it when Occam is right? ;') I never trust anything to be simple when it comes to X. Perhaps, the geeklords of X have grown tired of the complexity as well? One can only hope. I hope to one day be able to tell the X config routine I have a 17" monitor and a video card and I want only 1024x768 resolution or better with more colors than I can count, and have X magically configure it for me. Ah ... I can dream, can't I?
